Abstract
Eating disorders represent a group of complex
psychiatric conditions marked by dysfunctional eating behaviors and distorted
body image, which significantly impair both physical and mental health. This
paper provides a comprehensive overview of the major types of eating disorders,
including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and other
specified feeding or eating disorders (OSFED). It explores the multifactorial
causes and risk factors, such as genetic predisposition, psychological issues,
sociocultural influences, and environmental triggers. The paper also emphasizes
the critical role of nutrition therapy in the recovery process, which focuses
on restoring nutritional balance, correcting malnutrition, and establishing
healthy eating habits. Through a review of current clinical practices and
evidence-based interventions, the paper highlights how individualized nutrition
therapy supports physical healing, reduces medical complications, and enhances
psychological well-being. Results indicate that combining nutrition therapy
with psychological and medical treatment yields better outcomes in symptom
reduction and relapse prevention. In conclusion, a multidisciplinary approach
that integrates nutrition therapy is essential for comprehensive care and
long-term recovery in individuals affected by eating disorders, ultimately
improving their overall health and quality of life.
